A Brand New Start ~

Hello Loyal Viewers,

Today's post is going to be on a more serious note, and it is not a "Whimsical Weekend" either. I would like to inform my world wide audience that for a couple of weeks this blog is going to be under construction. I am planning on redoing everything: the name, the theme, and the overall general layout of the blog. It is going to be much more professional an organized, and the best part? Posts will be uploaded more frequently. The new format should be set no late than the end of September.

Cathie is going to take a journey of he own for a little while, to find her inspiration where ever it may be. So in other words, she will not be blogging for a couple of weeks, maybe even months.

Please note, that when you visit this website for the next few weeks of so you will notice that it is not complete. Please be patient with the new templates and color schemes. The new blogging posts will start September 9, 2013.

If when you first come to the blog and it looks plain and black and white, click refresh, and you will see the pretty new color palette of the new template.

If you have any suggestions please email me at apairofchicpearls@gmail.com .

I am really excited to start this new journey.

I hope you are as well.

Stay tuned my lovelies.

Fashion Tip: Layering Prints

At the beginning of my blog, there were two owners. There was myself, and a dear friend of mine; her name is Cathie. I couldn’t bring myself to delete these posts because they are a part of what is now “Ribbons and Pearls”.

Hello Lovelies!

So, lately I have been seeing a lot of people layer patterns and most of the time it works and other times it doesn't. Most of the time people can pull it off and others seem to pair up the wrong patterns.

For example:

There may be gray stripes in both, but in my opinion you should not pair stripes and plaid in the same outfit because of the contradicting stripes.

But if you were to...

put these two patterns together with a thick plain belt the outfit will flow together perfectly. Remember not to over due the patterns or else the outfit will be too busy.

Or you could wear this cute black and white outfit. It works because of the neutrals it shares and because the flowing top is opposite of the pencil skirt.

If you like these last two outfits I showed check out the book Style by Lauren Conrad.

(Sorry for the blurriness in these last two pictures my scanner didn't seem to pick everything up clearly)

Anyway, remember to wear what you like but to be careful if you do layer patterns because you don't want too much going on.

Have a great day,
xoxo

Happy Monday! ~ Visit to Mykonos

Hello Loves!

So, this Monday marks the very first Monday for the 2013-2014 school year for Cathie and I!

So anyway, I know it is hard to transition into a new school year, I am even suffering from post-summer depression, but everyday remember why school can be fun.

1. Choosing an outfit for each day of the week is super fun to me.
2. I love seeing my friends and squealing over the latest new from them
3. I love packing a healthy lunch for school. It is especially rewarding when lunch is at 1 o'clock. (hint hint post soon)

But just holding on to the last little bit of summer, I would like to share some picture with y'all from my trip to Europe.

Today I take you to Mykonos, Greece!
(yes, like in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding)

The beaches overlooking a beautiful island that is the birthplace of Apollo. I almost lost my hat taking this picture. It was EXTREMELY WINDY!

Why was I squinting in the last picture? All of the houses and buildings are white washed and super reflective of the sun, but absolute breath taking against the cloudless sky. (my computer wallpaper)

I love stopping at local bakeries. Today I sampled a yummy apple cookie and not to mention the baklava!

Mykonos town is just along the shore. You can see the fish boats and their local catch. And while sitting at the cafes you can even be splashed by the pounding waves.

Sailing into a New School Year #8 ~ First Day OOTD

Hi Loves!

Wow. I cannot even begin to explain how I feel right now. Today was my first day of school, but more importantly I still can't believe that today was my first day of HIGH SCHOOL. It was kind of a whirlwind, yet at the same time it was fulfilling. Almost kind of like my whole life has been preparing for this moment. On a blogging note, Cathie and I will be doing LOTS of school-related blogs so make sure you keep an eye out for that.

Every first day of school I want to look my absolute best and fresh. I want to give the impression that a new me has come back to school, refreshed and ready to start off a wonderful school year (not how I felt at 6 this morning when my alarm went off).

Dress: Judith March
Shoes: Jack Rogers
Necklace: Tiffany and Co. (similar)

As I draw the final line in our back to school series I would like to thank Sydney for her contribution in the series. She did a really amazing job. Sometime in the near future be on a lookout for another series with her.

Sailing into A New School Year #6: Whitening your Teeth

Hello Lovelies!

With school only a few days away, everyone wants to look their best on the first day. One way to do that is by whitening your teeth. Now, don't go spend a lot of money on a professional teeth whitening, you can get great results by doing it yourself at home! This teeth whitening recipe is a Dr. Oz one, that I found on Pinterest.

First, get your ingredients together. You will need 1/4 cup baking soda, lemon juice from half of a lemon, and a q-tip.

Mix your ingredients together and then apply to your teeth with the q-tip. Do NOT leave the mixture on for more than a minute.

Then brush your teeth to remove the mixture.

This the before and after of my smile; you can really see the great results.

I hope, if you try it, it will turn out perfect for you.

Have a great day.
xoxo

Sailing into a New School Year #5 ~ Healthy Snacks

Hi Loves!

In years past when I came home from a stressful day at school, I always found myself looking for foods with little to no substantial nutritional value. Last year though, I came up with almost like a mini-menu of little snacks after school that kept me from eating the entire pantry. oops.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Applesauce and graham crackers is pretty much my holy grail snack. It is sweet and satisfying and it gives me lots of energy for when I go workout later.

Classic and simple, fruit and small veggies is the way to go. Both super healthy and super sweet.

Nutella and whole wheat bread is a perfect before a workout snack, it contains good fats, lots of good carbs for energy, and protein to help in the building and toning of muscles.

Special K "Vanilla Almond" Cereal is a great alternative to a chocolate bar with almonds. It is sweet and yet it still has proteins and good carbs. Horray!

Almonds are one of those snacks that are too easy to make. Well there is no making involved. They are a perfect snack to have on the way to workout or a sports practice.

Every Friday though, I let myself go loose, just a little bit. Somersaults taste like a chocolate cookie but in reality they are just sunflower seeds and dutch cocoa. I love Cookie Chips they are cookie except they are thinner and the portion size is perfect. Lastly, my favorite alternative to Oreos are Newman's Own Ginger-O's they are just like Oreos except ginger and ginger is a very good spice to include in a healthy diet. I would pair any of these sweets with a 90 calorie Silk Pure Almond Milk -- which is sweet as well -- YUM!

After a long day in the winter, I love to make myself a cup of tea while I do my homework. It stimulates my brain for the long evening of work and keeps me cozy. My favorites are Tazo "Passion" and Japanese- style Sweet Matcha.

Remember, after school snacks should always be a tiny portion that holds you over until dinner time. Sweet foods should always be eaten in MODERATION.

Wish List Wednesday #3 ~ Beginning of Fall

Hi Loves!

I can't believe I am typing this, but the summer season is coming to an end and that means that school is fast approaching. Eek! Recently companies have been releasing their fall collections, and that brings happiness to my heart (sort of). Fall might be the best season for fashion because layering is finally permitted and the colors range from warm neutrals to rich hues of blue, red, and green. So pretty.

I absolutely ADORE simple dresses like this one from J. Crew. They can be easily paired with a blazer and flats for a put together look or they can be dressed down with a cardigan and a pair of riding boots and a fun scarf. And, the scallops on this dress complete the picture.

This scalloped collar shirt, from Kiel James Patrick, is probably the number one item that I want from this list. I can easily imagine pairing it with my white Lilly Pulitzer "Puffer Vest", dark washed skinnys, and nude flats. I'm already in love.

For some reason I feel that shirt-dresses are a must for fall. This one from J. Crew is so cute and would make any lazy day outfit look super chic.
Okay, this is where some of my more random wants ... no needs ... are. I'm kind of in desperate need of some cute and comfy pajamas. I do believe that J. Crew (again) has out done themselves. And a bright pink monogram on the breast-pocket would be absolutely perfect.

* hint hint birthday present mommy and daddy * My birthday is really really soon (like October soon) and I have been eying this Vitamix Blender ever since I have gotten into smoothie making. Ohh how creamy and yummy my smoothies would be with this guy.

Which one would you like to see me make? I may even make them all. :) Let me know by leaving a comment or sending me an email at apairofchicpearls@gmail.com .

Whimsical Weekend: Out West and Tea

 Hello Lovelies!

If you ever are thinking about having tea one day sometime soon, ditch the tea bag and order some chinese tea leaves. While I was in San Francisco I went to Chinatown and visited a tea shop.  There is just such a difference between tea bags and fresh tea leaves; they are great for your "tea parties" and such. They also have benefits to them.

(from top to bottom)

Lichee Black: has a sweeter taste like sweet tea but is all natural sugar and has none added to it.
Blue People Ginseng Oolong: has a long name but is delicious. Out of the three it has the most caffeine just like coffee but unlike coffee it does not dry out your skin or give you wrinkles.
Oolong: is a very light tea that smells like popcorn and detoxicates you after a meal.

Each one of these boxes last for about a month and if you want to order some go to the Vital Tea Leaf website.
Or if you are in San Francisco go to their shop in Chinatown. The tastings are free!

My teacup and a little centerpiece of tea leaves on the counter.

The wall of tea that was next to my family and I while we tasted tea and afterward bought our favorites. (There was another wall of tea behind us, so much tea!)

Have a great day,
xoxo
